Jumbo vs Misawa: Part 2

Jumbo Tsuruta/Yoshiaki Yatsu vs Mtsuharu Misawa/Toshiaki Kawada 7/7/90

Jumbo is definitely going to be hot over Misawa beating him in their singles match. I imagine he's going to take a lot of it out on Kawada, though. Isn't it weird that of all the guys in this match, Yatsu is the one that got a title shot at Hulk Hogan? Kawada and Yatsu start, and Kawada has no problems throwing some shit Jumbo's way. Always my favorite shit in Japanese tags when dudes throw shots at the guy on the apron. This happens almost as soon as Jumbo tags in, hitting Kawada with a high knee and blasting Misawa when he wasn't looking. That cuntiness. Crowd gets HOT when Misawa and Jumbo square off, with loud chants in Misawa's favor. Misawa gets the better of their first exchange, and things are off and running form there. Naturally, Kawada settles into the FIP for a lot of the match. Misawa has a few segments himself. Of course, things are much hotter when Misawa/Jumbo are in the ring, but Kawada is having a great showing as well. Yatsu is just kind of there, but that's typically his role in every match. In almost all of the exchanges, Misawa comes out on top. Until Jumbo gets pisses and blasts him with something. Kawada nearly scores an upset win that was LIT as fuck, but Jumbo ends up pinning him with an avalanche backdrop.

Jumbo Tsuruta/Akira Taue/Masanobu Fuchi vs Mitsuharu Misawa/Toshiaki Kawada/Tsuyoshi Kikuchi 8/18/90

I have a feeling Fuchi is going to earn his future cunt stripes. Also, Kikuchi is going to get the shit kicked out of him, no doubt. In fact, Kikuchi and Fuchi begin, but it's Taue who scores the first big hit of the match, laying Kikuchi the fuck out with a lariat. With the way Kawada and Taue always go at it, you'd never think these guys would go on to be a long term team. I love this side story of young Kawada feeling himself and thinking he can go toe to toe with Jumbo like Misawa has. It does a lot to establish that Kawada is the next guy after Misawa, but it's still lol when Kawada goes on this big string of offense against Jumbo and then Jumbo lays him the fuck out. Kikuchi gets absolutely murdered. I swear I think Jumbo's lariat broke his god damn jaw. I've never heard a CRACK like that from a lariat. He also got hit with a Taue dropkick in the mouth, and a disgusting big boot from Jumbo. That dude is earning his pay. He damn near won the match multiple times, which had the crowd going insane at the possibility. At this point, it's like Kikuchi is the hottest star in the world. And then Taue puts him down with a back drop.

Jumbo Tsuruta/Masanobu Fuchi/Mighty Inoue vs Mitsuharu Misawa/Kenta Kobashi/Tsuyoshi Kikuchi 8/21/90

A bit uncharacteristically for these tags, Jumbo and Misawa begin. Probably has something to do with their upcoming number one contender match at the start of September. This is far more low key than the previous matches, both in terms of crowd reaction and wrestler performances. Kikuchi takes most of the beating, but what has been shown repeatedly in this match is that Misawa is ready for Jumbo and aware of all of his tricks. Jumbo can't even sneak in a cheap shot on the apron without Misawa dropping down before the strike can land. Fuchi pinned Kikuchi with a Thesz Press while the other four were brawling around ringside.

Jumbo Tsuruta vs Mitsuharu Misawa Triple Crown Number One Contendership 9/1/90

Jumbo immediately goes after the mid section of Misawa and has him rocked a minute in. All that stuff of Misawa being ready for Jumbo's tricks, so Jumbo starts off with something unexpected and rarely lets up. This is much, much different from their previous encounter. Jumbo throwing elbows, Misawa no longer being the spunky underdog fighting for a win, but just taking his time for his come back. At one point Jumbo completely loses his cool and just slaps the shit out of Misawa, then gets him on the mat and punches him in the face repeatedly. THEN gives him a beating around ringside, even blasting him with a chair. So sick of this frog fuck. This just gets Misawa fired up, though. Good job, breh. Misawa has a big late match botch where he tries to either leap frog or victory roll Jumbo and fell on his head. BACKDROPUUUUU. Misawa kicks out. He does not kick out of the second one.

Mitsuharu Misawa/Toshiaki Kawada vs Jumbo Tsuruta/Akira Taue 9/30/90

Kawada is now in his traditional black and yellow gear. Misawa has also changed to his more well known tights. Misawa and Taue get VERY chippy with each other on the floor. Taue came in with a bandage on his head and is busted open about 2 minutes after he gets tagged in. Kawada's gut becomes the main focus of the match for a very long chunk. And this is a long match. Misawa/Taue are definitely going to have a gnarly match soon. There's some fiery heat between those two. This match is actually at it's best when it isn't Misawa vs Jumbo. All the other combinations are better. And it's a weird role reversal where Misawa's team is the dick team and Jumbo's second ends up being the FIP for most of the match. The match goes to a time limit draw.

Jumbo Tsuruta/Akira Taue/Mighty Inoue vs Mitsuharu/Toshiaki Kawada/Tsuyoshi Kikuchi 10/10/90

Jumbo getting real sick of Misawa and his friends. Doesn't even want to hit them anymore. A disturbing lack of hatred in this. Kobashi is ranked lower than Kawada, so he plays the FIP role in this. Unsurprisingly, he's pretty good at it. Also unsurprisingly, he's the one to eat the pin. Pretty whatever by the standards of these matches.

Jumbo Tsuruta/Akira Taue/Masanobu Fuchi vs Mitsuharu Misawa/Toshiaki Kawada/Kenta Kobashi 10/19/90

Taue seems to have a hard on for Kawada in this. Misawa is finally changing up some of his spots with Jumbo, like instead of doing the flying reverse headbutt out of the corner that gets countered every time, he steps on the breaks and throws an elbow. Jumbo's goal for this match seems to be to ruin the color coded for your convenience ribs of his opponents. All of them. Kawada and Taue have some HEAT in this. Every chance they get, they're kicking the shit out of each other or throwing each other on the floor. Jesus, Fuchi blasts Kobashi in the temple with the LIP of a chair. The fuck? From there he just stomps the shit out of his nose. Obviously, Kenta's nose is bleeding in the next shot, because clearly that cunt broke it. Of course, the other two continue to smash the shit out of his broken nose, because they're assholes. Kawada hits Jumbo with a HUGE spinning wheel kick, and Misawa goes in for the kill. It doesn't work. Kenta nearly beats Jumbo and the crowd went insane. In the end, Jumbo pinned Kobashi with a backdrop.

Mitsuharu Misawa/Toshiaki Kawada vs Jumbo Tsuruta/Akira Taue 12/7/90

The final Misawa/Jumbo match of the year, this time taking place in the Real World Tag League. Taue's leg becomes the main focus of the match, and Jumbo gets hurt out on the floor, meaning Taue keeps getting open for a tag but there's no one to tag to. Straight up FIP stuff. When Jumbo does make it back to the apron or even into the ring, he's immediately intercepted. Jumbo finally gets the hot tag and the crowd that normally chants for Misawa in these matches pops huge for Jumbo. Kawada pins Taue with a powerbomb to end the feud. For this year. They'll have a about a million more tag matches, but only two more singles matches, one in 1991, and one in 1992.
